So we headed down this past weekend for (probably) our last weekend before the baby arrives. I know I said that last weekend but I'm fairly certain that it was my last trip--it took us almost 3 hours to get home Sunday afternoon and that's just too long for me to be away from a bathroom :) Once again the boys had a great time on the beach and in the water with Dan. Dan took them out into the "deep waves" for the 1st time and held them while he jumped over and they couldn't get enough. I especially like the photo of me and Jack in the little waves proving that white men can jump......Every time they got out of the water they darted for the hot sand where they rolled around covering themselves from head to toe. Towels are definitely not needed. Dan spent some time by himself with them on the boardwalk Saturday night where they rode a few rides, played Skee-Ball and got ice cream cones minus the ice cream. Probably the only 4 year olds you know that order an empty ice cream cone. We came home Sunday night because today was their 4 year old well visit. I am always nervous prior to this appointment because of course I want everything to be OK and their growth to be normal and healthy. Chalk it up to their prematurity, low-birth weight, "new" mother, whatever...I still feel like I am walking into a performance review from my work days. Thankfully they are both healthy and are following the same healthy growth curve that they always have. Jack is more on the petite side where Luke is about 2 inches taller and 2 pounds heavier. It puts Luke around the 50th percentile and Jack around the 20th. Pretty consistent for both of them over the past 4 years. So besides the business of the appointment, it was probably one of the worst appointments--behaviorally for Jack that I have ever seen. It took 3 people to restrain him to give the 4 shots and poor Luke crawled under a chair and cried while he was waiting his turn. It was awful. Note to all of my friends who's kids have not turned 4 yet---do not go to this appointment by yourself. The shots are tough--2 big ones in each arm. I felt terrible. When we left Luke assured Jack not to worry becasue they wouldn't need any more shots until they went to college----and that's a long time!
