Update on Quinn

Little Quinny has had quite a week. It started Tuesday evening when he was coughing and gagging so hard that he was spitting up lots of "junk" and seemed like it was choking him. It happened several times and had us really worried so we called the Dr around 9PM and by 10PM we were at CHOP ER. We ushered in my 34th birthday in the ER and were released by 1AM with an official diagnosis of congestion. Neither Dan or I were convinced that that's all it was but we didn't want something to be wrong either. On Wednesday we followed up with our Pediatrician who gave him a complete examination and determined that, unbelievably, he tested positive for Strep throat. Which by the way they say is virtually unheard of in infants. He had a 100.1 fever and they were worried if if got to 100.4, we would be back in the hospital. They didn't prescribe oral antibiotics b/c infants can't absorb them and they didn't want him to take tylenol b/c they didn't want to mask any symptoms so we were sent home with him trying to fend off this infection and probably some other type of viral illness on his own. So home we went on Wednesday watching him like a hawk. By 8PM that night, his temperature was 98.8--thank God--and we just continued to monitor for the next several days. Yesterday CHOP called and said the lab reports showed his strep test was negative. So we're pretty confused what that actually means but the good news is Quinny is doing a lot better. His mood was always good and his feeding was great so they were both good signs. He does still have some minor congestion and wants to be held around the clock--so we are of course abiding and probably creating a bad, bad habit. oh well--they're only little once.
